HALLOWEEN IS OR NOT A TRADITIONAL CELEBRATION IN BRAZIL? WHAT DO YOU THINK?
THE MOST IMPORTANT YEARLY EVENTS IN BRAZIL
The Halloween isn't a traditional celebration in Brazil and it doesn't take part in our culture. However it's celebrated in many other countries.
For us, Brazilian, the most important yearly events are Christmas and New Year. The first one is commemorated on December 25, and the second on the last day of the year.
We know that very probably Jesus wasn't born on December 25, but because the real date is unknown, that was chosen, centuries ago, for its celebration. It has become a tradition among the nonreligious.
On Christmas Eve, the strects as well as the houses are decorated, especially in Goiânia, with coloring lights, Christmas tree and with many other interesting ornaments.
The most meaning full of all is the so called Christmas Spirit. It makes the people more humane and Brotherly with each other. it's in that period of time that the people try to obbey the greatest Jesus commandment: "When the pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they came together, and one of them, a teacher of the Law, tried tap him with a question "Teacher", he asked, "Which is the greatest commandment in the Law?Jesus answered, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart , with all you soul , and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the most important commandment. The second most important commandment is like it: Love your neighbour as you love your self. The wole Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments" (Matthew 23. 34-40)
In the 1 of january some people have a party and some people go to church to thank God for the blessings they were given during the year that is finishing and to ask Him for new blessings for the coming year.
In Brazil, many people have some supetitions on New Year's Eve, for example: they wear only white clothes on New Year's Eve, because they think that this color will bring peace during the comming year. There are also people who belive that eating lentils on the 31 to the 1 of January will bring them prosperity during the whole New Year.
We know that some people take that period of time, Christmas and New Year, to travel, and we would like to suggest Goiás as one of travel options for those who enjoy Nature and Ecological Turism. Below you can see and choose some places to visit here, in the center of Brazil.
